Dr. John McHugh is an assistant professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. His research focuses on organizational relationships, studying the effects of public policy on healthcare organizations and how changing organizational dynamics affect patient outcomes. He is particularly interested in transitions of care between acute and post-acute and is currently working on several projects investigating the changing relationships between hospitals and skilled nursing facilities. Prior to joining the faculty at Columbia, Dr. McHugh spent nearly 10 years with the Health System Strategy practice at Navigant Consulting (Guidehouse) where he worked with hospitals and health systems across the country. He received a PhD in health services research from Brown University’s School of Public Health and an MBA with a concentration Health Sector Management from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
