Dr. Lisvel Matos is a Postdoctoral Fellow at Duke University School of Nursing and a nurse practitioner dedicated to advancing health equity in Latinx communities. As a Dominican-American raised in Miami and relocating to North Carolina during her teenage years, she gained firsthand insight into the unique health challenges faced by Latinx populations. These experiences shaped her understanding of how social and structural factors contribute to health inequities.
Throughout her nursing career, Dr. Matos observed the profound impact of these factors on patient outcomes, fueling her passion to address systemic issues. She recently completed her PhD focusing on HIV prevention inequities among Latinx sexually minoritized men.
Currently, she is developing a nurse-led care model that employs digital health technologies to combat health inequities in Latinx communities. Her goal is to create equitable solutions that improve healthcare access and quality, reflecting her commitment to social justice and community empowerment.
