Luci K. Leykum, MBA, MSC, MD is the Director of the new VA Elizabeth Dole Center of Excellence for Veteran and Caregiver Research. She is also a Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Division of General and Hospital Medicine at UT Health San Antonio. Dr. Leykum also serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor at The University of Texas at Austin in the Department of Information, Risk and Operations Management. Dr. Leykum holds clinical positions in San Antonio at University Health Systems and South Texas Veterans Health Systems. Dr. Leykum’s research has focused on the application of the lens of complexity science to clinical systems. She has served as a Co-Investigator in studies of learning in primary care teams, and has led and contributed to clinical systems improvement and change publications on a variety of care settings.  Her most recent studies use a complexity science framework to understand how relationships and sense making differ between physician teams, and how these differences relate to patient outcomes.
