Megan Shepherd-Banigan is a mental health services researcher at the Durham VA Health Care System and an Assistant Professor of Population Health Sciences at the Duke School of Medicine. She applies rigorous methodological designs to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and policies  to support family caregivers. Her interests center on improving access to and the quality of LTSS for medically vulnerable populations, including those with mental illness and older adults with cognitive impairments. She is funded through a VA HSR&D Career Development Award to develop a family-involved treatment preparedness intervention to improve uptake of evidenced-based psychotherapy for Veterans with PTSD.
