Michael Thompson, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Section of Health Services Research and Quality, Department of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Michigan Medical School. Prior to joining faculty, he received his doctorate in Epidemiology from Michigan State University in 2015, and completed a fellowship in Health Services Research and Policy at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in 2017. His research is focused on understanding and improving value across the continuum of care, with an emphasis in patients with cardiovascular disease. Currently, he serves as co-Director for the Michigan Value Collaborative, which is one of 19 statewide Collaborative Quality Initiatives funded by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. Additionally, he is a faculty member in both the Center for Healthcare Outcomes and Policy and the Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation at the University of Michigan.
