Dr. Arabadjian is cardiovascular health equity researcher and nurse scientist. She is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Health Services Research in the Department of Foundations of Medicine at NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine, with a secondary appointment in the Department of Population health at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. Her research aims to examine and address multi-level factors that contribute to health disparities among underrepresented populations, including women and minoritized adults, with or at risk for cardiovascular disease. With this project, Dr. Arabadjian builds on her prior clinical and research work with adults with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), a common but significantly underdiagnosed inherited cardiac condition. In her pre-doctoral and post-doctoral work, she examined differences in clinical outcomes among Black and White adults with HCM, and decisional factors impacting HCM genetic testing utilization among Black adults with HCM. Here, she will examine system- and clinician-level factors impacting evaluation, treatment and management of HCM, leveraging Electronic Health Records from a large health system and qualitative interviews with providers. Results from this project will allow Dr. Arabadjian to identify actionable targets to improve HCM diagnosis and diagnostic equity to optimize outcomes.
