Dr. Peter R. Orszag is the CEO and member of the Board of Directors of Lazard, one of the world’s preeminent financial advisory and asset management firms. Prior to becoming Chief Executive of the firm in October 2023, Orszag served as CEO of its financial advisory business and global co-head of its healthcare practice. Orszag joined Lazard as Vice Chairman of Investment Banking in May 2016.
Prior to Lazard, Orszag served as Vice Chairman of Corporate and Investment Banking and Chairman of the Financial Strategy and Solutions Group at Citigroup, Inc.
In the Obama Administration, Orszag served as Director of the Office of Management and Budget (Jan 2009 - Jun 2010) and previously as Director of the Congressional Budget Office (Jan 2007 - Nov 2008). Under his leadership, the agencies significantly increased attention to the role rising health care expenditures played in the government's long-term fiscal strategy. This prompted the Administration to position health reform as its top legislative priority, enacting the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the Affordable Care Act. His career in public service began under the Clinton administration, where he served as a Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy and as a Senior Economist and Senior Adviser on the Council of Economic Advisers.
Orszag has also made notable contributions to academic literature, including hundreds of published articles and several books. As a senior fellow at Brookings, he co-founded and directed the Hamilton Project, and he currently serves as a Board Director for the Peterson Institute for International Economics, Mount Sinai Hospital, and New Visions for Public Schools in New York. Additionally, Orszag is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and holds an honorary doctorate from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
He graduated summa cum laude in Economics from Princeton University and obtained a Ph.D. in Economics from the London School of Economics, which he attended as a Marshall Scholar.
