Simone Singh, Ph.D., M.A.

Simone Singh, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Health Management and Policy at the University of Michigan. A health services researcher with a disciplinary background in accounting and finance, Dr. Singh conducts research on the financing of public health services and systems. She has published extensively on the role that nonprofit hospitals’ community benefit investments play in providing funding for local public health systems and the impact of these investments on the health of communities across the United States. Dr. Singh also studies financial and cost accounting practices and systems of governmental public health agencies. Her work in this area has supported the development of costing tools for public health services and examined differences in productivity and efficiency in service delivery across public health agencies. Most recently, Dr. Singh is co-leading an RWJF-funded project aimed at advancing the adoption of a nationally uniform financial accounting system among public health agencies. Before coming to Michigan, Dr. Singh was on faculty at Georgetown University. She received her Ph.D. in Health Services Organization and Policy and her M.A. in Applied Economics, both from the University of Michigan. She also holds a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Bayreuth, Germany.
