Dr. Crowder has held nursing positions in clinical and academic settings in the United States and abroad. Her teaching expertise is health policy and advocacy as well as leadership. She is known for her development of seven innovative models to empower nursing students, faculty, and healthcare providers in clinical practice for health policy and advocacy roles. She uses previous clinical and research roles in asthma care coordination, child and adolescent health, and chronic disease management as foundations for several advocacy endeavors.

As Special Assistant to the Dean for Health Policy Initiatives, Crowder collaborates with IU Government Relations. She engages with state directors and stakeholders on legislation related to IUSON and the nursing profession. She communicates with the Assistant Vice President for Federal Relations on legislation and funding.

Crowder was one of six persons competitively selected for the prestigious 2019 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellowship. From 2019–2020, she was in Washington, D.C. Her placement was the U.S. House of Representatives, Committee on Education and Labor, Congressman Bobby Scott, Chair. Her assignment was the health policy team and focused on maternal health, telehealth, and COVID-19.

Crowder is committed to international efforts to increase nurses’ leadership. As a result of her health policy and advocacy expertise, she is frequently an invited conference speaker and consultant for academic institutions.
