Sherif is a 4th year PhD candidate at Ross & Carol Nese College of Nursing. As a registered nurse and experienced mental health professional with over a decade years of full-time work for the largest psychiatric hospital in Nigeria, Mr. Sherif completed his Master of Professional Studies degree in Labor and Global Workers’ Rights at Penn State in 2019. He was also opportune to represent Public Service International (PSI), as part of the People’s Health Movement team that served as young “Global Health Watchers” of the 142nd session of the World Health Organization {WHO} Executive Board meeting in Geneva, in January 2018, which enabled him to gain deep insight into the dynamics of global health politics and policy formulation.
Sherif’s planned dissertation study aims to enhance our understanding of how Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) describe their experiences transitioning to work with older adults in the U.S. Sherif’s excellent record in the scholarship of research includes 2 international, 4 national, and 2 regional peer-reviewed presentations. He recently co-authored a publication in Nursing Outlook on IENs with scholars from across the U.S.

He is a member of 2 National Institute of Health/National Institute on Aging funded research study teams with Dr. Susan Loeb as a Principal Investigator. Sherif has been the recipient of a wide array of accolades, such as the Mark T. Kolanowski Award for Excellence in Ph.D. Nursing Research, the Alumni Society Board Doctoral Nursing Student Academic Excellence Award, both from 2023. He also secured the 2023 Academic Consortium on Criminal Justice Health (ACCJH) Scholarship, which facilitated his conference travel. Lastly, his leadership service was recognized with the 2023 Annual Student Organization Award for Outstanding Service at PSU.

Sherif’s impressive array of leadership and service impacts span the Ross & Carol Nese College of Nursing, the Penn State University on the whole, as well as the surrounding central Pennsylvania community.
In his spare time, Sherif find great pleasure in watching documentaries and engaging in political debates, which stimulate my intellectual curiosity and broaden my understanding of various global issues.
