Dr. Hicks has served in a variety of roles for the School of Dentistry at UT Health Science Center San Antonio. He has been: Interim Associate Dean for Advanced Education, predoctoral laboratory and clinical faculty, postdoctoral didactic and clinical faculty, and director of both the Advanced Education Program in General Dentistry and the Advanced Education in General Practice Residency programs. He has also served as Chair of the Department of Hospital Dentistry at the Health Science Center‘s University Hospital. He has been a provider of care for children and adults with medical complexity for over 30 years. Dr. Hicks served as Chair of the Commission on Dental Accreditation and has been appointed to the HHS/Health Resources and Services Administration's Advisory Committee on Training in Primary Care Medicine and Dentistry, the American Dental Education Association's Policy and Research Advisory Committee, and the American Dental Association's Council on Scientific Affairs. Dr. Hicks lately has concentrated on writing for federal training grants, securing over $38 million in state and federal funding for his institution.
