Today, AcademyHealth submitted official comments on the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute’s draft research priorities and agenda. As outlined in the Affordable Care Act, the establishment of the research priorities and agenda is one of PCORI’s statutory responsibilities. The priorities and agenda will lay the foundation for a portfolio of "comparative clinical effectiveness research" that will inform health decisions.

AcademyHealth favors a balanced research portfolio that supports scientific study of the organization, financing, and delivery of health care and public health services, as well as research designed to improve the quality and outcomes of these services. We are supportive of PCORI’s decision to draft broad, guiding priorities that will afford PCORI flexibility in funding research that will allow for studies on the organization and delivery of health care, community and population health services, and the interaction of systems to prevent, treat, and manage specific diseases and conditions. We also supports PCORI’s prioritization of health disparities, the infrastructure to produce this research, and strategies to enhance its widespread dissemination and use among patients, caregivers, health care providers, and other decision makers.
