Chad Terhune, senior correspondent for Kaiser Health News and California Healthline, is an award-winning reporter based in Los Angeles. He writes about the cost and quality of health care and what it means for consumers and taxpayers. Terhune has investigated how companies profit from Medicaid managed care, superbug outbreaks at U.S. hospitals and a $3 billion accounting fraud scandal. Previously, he was a reporter at the Los Angeles Times, the Wall Street Journal and BusinessWeek magazine.
At the L.A. Times, he uncovered several scope-related outbreaks and wrote about how a device maker kept hospitals in the dark about these deadly infections. His coverage won a “Best in Business” award from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers in 2016.
Terhune spent more than a decade at the Journal and his stories on deceptive business practices in health insurance won a National Press Club award. At Businessweek, his “Subprime Wolves” cover story earned recognition from Investigative Reporters and Editors. He graduated from the University of Florida.
