Lucero Paredes, M.D., is a general surgery resident at Maine Medical Center, with research interests in firearm violence, social determinants of health, and surgical equity. She is currently completing a research fellowship with the National Clinician Scholars Program (NCSP) at Yale University. 

Growing up in South Florida, she witnessed firsthand the impact of structural inequities among Latino communities, fueling her passion for social justice and improving healthcare for marginalized populations. She completed her Bachelors in Anthropology from Washington University in St. Louis and received her Doctor of Medicine from Boston University School of Medicine. During medical school, she found her passion in surgery, with plans to sub-specialize in trauma and critical care following residency. During her time with the NCSP, she has developed a strong foundation for health services research. She is committed to addressing contextual factors associated with violent injury and improving surgical outcomes for marginalized populations. 

Dr. Paredes is a 2024 AcademyHealth Diversity Scholar.
