Dr. Traber Giardina is a patient safety researcher at the Center for Innovations in Quality, Effectiveness and Safety based at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center and assistant professor at Baylor College of Medicine. She is also the Co-Director of the Diagnosis Improvement Safety Center (DISCovery). Dr. Giardina is a trained social worker with extensive experience in designing and conducting qualitative studies. She has acted as the qualitative methodologist on the Patient Safety Center of Inquiry at the Houston VA for ten years. Her research focuses on patients’ experiences of safety events and exploring methods to leverage health IT to improve patient engagement in the safety of their care
