Moderated by Rachel Issaka, panelists Aaron Lyon, David A. Asch, Reshma Gupta, and Vindell Washington discuss the use of innovation to improve interventions and create equitable health care practices during COVID-19.
Dr. David Asch notes how the pandemic increased the pace of innovation and implementation, enabling researchers to move much faster due to the removal of regulatory processes that slow down innovation. Aaron Lyon, Ph.D. discusses innovating human-centered design—highlighting that products must be accessible, low-cost, and built for diverse users. Panelists Drs. Reshma Gupta, and Vindell Washington also highlight ways COVID-19 revealed inequities in our health systems and interventions. Panelists point to opportunities to remove organizational barriers, build trust, and ensure innovations do not widen inequalities.
