John Shin (he/him) is a first-year Ph.D. student in Health Policy and Clinical Practice at Dartmouth College. Under the supervision of Dr. Inas Khayal, he is working on using novel quantitative methods rooted in machine learning, data science, and biostatistics to study racial inequities in end-of-life care delivery for Medicare beneficiaries with chronic conditions.
Prior to joining Dartmouth, John was a research program coordinator at the Johns Hopkins Cochlear Center for Hearing and Public Health, where he looked at healthcare utilization outcomes among Medicare beneficiaries with hearing loss and Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias. From the Center, he received the Scholars in Hearing and Aging Research Program award to conduct research on hearing loss, cognitive decline, and dementia and whether such associations differed by race. He earned a Master of Public Health degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public health and a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience from Johns Hopkins University.
