Caroline Hale is a Senior Research Associate at AcademyHealth, where she supports the Evidence-Informed State Health Policy Institute (ESHPI) with the State University Partnership Learning Network (SUPLN). SUPLN supports evidence-based state health policy and practice, focusing on Medicaid-based health care. Caroline also supports the work of the Medicaid Outcomes Distributed Research Network (MODRN), which facilitates cross-state Medicaid analyses to inform Medicaid policy and program decisions. Through these networks, Caroline works on multiple projects, spanning subject areas including maternal health, opioid use disorder, and immunizations.

Prior to joining AcademyHealth, Caroline worked at the National Association of State Alcohol and Drug Abuse Directors (NASADAD) as a Research Analyst, where she led the work of two state networks to improve the publicly funded substance use disorder healthcare delivery system: the Women’s Services Network and the Youth Coordinators Network. Caroline also has experience working as a fellow for the Illinois Governor’s Office of Federal Affairs. Caroline earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Community Health with a concentration in Health Planning and Administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Project DREAM (Doula Research for Equitable Advances in Medicaid Pregnancy Health)

With funding support from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), AcademyHealth’s Evidence-Informed State Health Policy Institute and the University of Pittsburgh are bringing together six Medicaid programs, their university research partners, nine doula programs, and Medicaid enrollees to leverage an innovative distributed research network to advance racial equity in severe maternal morbidity.

Vaccine Information Sharing and Education Resource (VISER) Network

The Vaccine Information Sharing and Education Resource (VISER) Network, funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is a collaborative effort between AcademyHealth, the Association of Immunization Managers (AIM), and the National Academy of State Health Policy (NASHP) to provide immunization leaders with resources and promising practices for improving immunization rates for vaccine-preventable respiratory diseases across the lifespan.
