The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) is committed to improving health and health equity in the United States. In partnership with others, RWJF is working to develop a Culture of Health rooted in equity that provides every individual with a fair and just opportunity to thrive, no matter who they are, where they live, or how much money they make. And yet it is clear: we have much work to do to ensure an equitable health system for everyone. AcademyHealth has a long history of working with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to administer research grantmaking programs and to support research portfolios that seek to transform health and health care systems so that they are more equitable and centered on people’s goals and needs. Health Systems Research for Equity includes research examining a range of areas, including how to build trust and mutual respect, issues related to affordability and health insurance design, innovation in Medicaid to meet enrollees’ health and social needs, and community-led research projects that make the priorities of communities the primary goal of local health system transformation efforts.
